Dan Graduation Ceremony, et al
Our first of many (??) trips to Ohio in 2010 was fun, frightening, and filled with family.
In a few short days we saw Heather, Jeff, Cole and Luke Johnston; Allison, Dan and Dexter Karrels; Kathy Karrels, Deb, Joe, Nikki and Ben Phillips; Bob Singleton; Ned and Cindy Netherton; and Jason, Amber, Grace and Jason Jr. Netherton. Did I miss anyone?
The main purpose was to attend Dan Karrels graduation ceremony at the Air Force Institute of Technology which was held in the Air Force Museum at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. Dan received his PhD in computer engineering and now he is Captain Doctor Dan or is it Doctor Captain Dan ? Anyway, we are sure proud of him. Here are some shots from the graduation http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=156837&id=617928368&l=af654c81fe
(More family shots to follow)
The frightening part was the drive back from Dayton to Heather’s home in New Albany. We left after a reception at Captain John McCall’s home. It had been raining all day and then temperatures dropped below freezing and the rain turned to snow and the road to ice. Cars were in the ditches. I was concerned about stopping so I kept on driving at 40 mph on the interstate. Only a few trucks were driving faster. The roads were clear once we reached greater Columbus, but it is making the idea of coming back in December by car less likely.
But the family fun was the great part. Seeing my three grandsons playing together or playing in the same area was wonderful. Heather and Jeff’s new home is a terrific place for the boys and enough room that no one has to sleep in the basement. The play room they have is beyond wonderful--it is perfect!
We will be back in June for Luke’s first birthday!
