When we returned to Haarlem from Keukenhof we had time to go to the Frans Hals Museum. He was the foremost Dutch portrait painter of the 17th century and lived in Haarlem. In 1610 the museum was an alms house for old men. The huge group portraits were life sized and reminiscent of the Old Dutch Masters cigar box (for those of you old enough to know what I mean ). After the museum we walked to an Indonesian restaurant near the train station for a rijsttafel dinner. It was another beautiful day in Holland.
